[Review] COSRX Natural BHA Skin Returning Emulsion

(Use affiliated coupon: C10T190S3 for 8% off)
Verdict: 5/10
Repurchase: No

Price & Shop

I received this Cosrx Natural BHA Skin Returning Emulsion from  BBCosmetic in exchange for an honest review a while back but all thoughts are my own, as always. ^^ It's $14.90 per piece but you can get it for $13.70 after the 8% discount code (C10T190S3  applied during checkout). For those of you unaware with the free international shipping store, check out my review of them here.

This is one of the items they sent to me really early on. It took me a while to get the review down because I really wanted to love this product. Unfortunately, it looks like the Emulsion and I are just not meant to be.

Packaging, Ingredients and Directions

Like most other Cosrx products I've tried, this came in a white box that was very no-nonsense and down-to-earth, with ingredients, application methods, and purpose all written politely over it in black. The pump jar inside is white and non-transparent. I really like Cosrx's packaging of products. Their dispenser, cover, and container are all meant to be sanitary and easy to use. I have no problem with how they package things and hope they never change their less-is-more concept.

Ingredients: Centella Asiatica Leaf Water , Butylene Glycol, Alcohol, Dimethicone, Betaine Salicylate, Betaine,1,2-Hexanediol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Allantoin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Centella Asiatica Extract, Lecithin, Xanthan Gum, Zinc PCA, Panthenol, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil ,PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Arginine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Ethyl Hexanediol

First, I just have to say the ingredient list is gorgeous. There's so many things in the ingredients list that I love:

Centella Asiatica Leaf Water has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It's often used as treatment for skin injurires and conditions and is known to increase level of antioxidants and aid in healing.

Tea Tree Oil is one of those things I feel like my skin really digs. It's able to soothe and heal blemishes and is a natural antibacterial. Tea tree oil can also be used on it's own (once diluted properly) to disinfect pores and dry out whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and other blemishes. Used incorrectly and it could actually dry out skin though, so I've never attempted using just pure tea tree oil.

Orange Peel Oil is an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory oil that isn't just for acne-prone skin. It's shown to increase ability to absorb vitamin c and increase blood flow, which can aid in anti-aging.

Running this through cosdna doesn't come up wtih anything in particular to look out for.  There is, however, alcohol in the product so if you know you're sensitive to that, you should do well to avoid it altogether. T.T sorry.

According to their description, the combination of centella asiatica water and natural BHA is able to moisturize and vitalize skin by soothing skin trouble and fill in moisture on the cellular level and naturally hydrate the skin. It's recommended for people with oily or troublesome skin.

Directions: This emulsion is fairly thick and should be used after toners and essenses. So it's cleansing -> toner -> essense -> emulsion -> cream. I used this after A-sol as suggested in order to achieve a greater healing effect.

Texture and Fragrance

The texture of this is fairly liquidy with just the right amount of viscousness. You can probably tell by the picture that it has a slightly milky consistency. It's easily spreadable and smells a little like tea tree? I couldnt' really figure out the scent for this but it faded the moment I spread this on my skin so I was fine with the fragrance.

Performance

Cosrx Natural BHA Skin Returning Emulsion marketed itself as an all-natural product with organic BHA molecules that deeply penetrate into the skin to calm, soothe, and hydrate while taking care of skin concerns. It also claims to be able to revolutionaize and transform your skin with active ingredietns such as the BHA molecules that effectively refines skin to look perfect.

As I mentioned earlier, I applied this after cleansing, toning, and putting on Cosrx A-sol, as recommended. Unfortunately, my skin did not particularly care for this product since it just sits on my skin instead of being absorbed. It's one of the few products that makes my skin immediately uncomfortable. I felt like my skin couldn't breathe with just a thin layer of this spread on, if that makes any sense. While it wasn't doing anything horrible to my skin, I could feel my skin getting more congested as I left this on and I usually just end up splashing water on my face to try and wash it off. I tried this every other day for a few days. Stopped for a week and tried other products, then came back to this to make sure I wasn't just overthinking it, but the same uncomfortable feeling lingered. My skin just didn't want to like this at all

It's such a shame since the ingredients list is absolutely gorgeous and the bottle had a good amount of product for the price and I had been looking for a good moisturizer to layer over my skin. This looked like it could be it but alas, we weren't meant to be.

I ended up exchanging this with a Cosrx A-sol that broke out my friend and she loves it. She loved it so much she's bought a backup for it. She has particularly sensitive skin that reacted badly to the cosrx a-sol, cosrx honey moisture, most Innisfree products, and pretty much every other skincare product she's tried so having this work for her was a small miracle in itself. I'm really glad it worked for her. According to her, it was moisturizing enough that she didn't need to layer other creams over it. I'm not giving it a zero since it worked so well for my friend, but I can't really give it anything over a 5 either since my skin really didn't like this. :(

[Review] Malaysia Subscription Box: Cubecrate January Box

Price: RM35
(Given a free in exchange for an honest review by cubecrate.com)
Verdict: 9/10

Repurchase: NA

Unsurprisingly, this month's Cubcrate Subscription box is Chinese New Year theme, since this year's Chinese New Year fell in the end of January. The red tassle they've included in the box was tell-tale of the theme. They've curated such a gorgeous selection this month that it was remarkably easy to fall in love everything in it at first sight.

If you're uncertain about what Cubecrate is, it's a surprise subscription box that costs RM35 per month and includes a variety of locally sourced products ranging from beauty to decor and handmade items that you wouldn't think to try out on your own. For three months, the subscription is RM90. They also have a wine subscription if you're into fine wine. ^^

Disclaimer: I received this box in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, as usual. ^^ You can also check out:

January's Box

Isn't this box just gorgeous? The box arrived for me on the 25th, which was probably them waiting for it to arrive just before the cny holidays. ^^ I'm glad they've decided to keep the thinner box design they had for last month. The fragile items (bath salt soak and fridge magnet), were packed individually in bubble wrap to keep them protected. There was otherwise no additional cushioning for the items, which is eco-friendly. Frankly, I'm a little surprised they made it to me unscatched but am grateful nevertheless.

This is probably my favorite box from Cubecrate I've gotten thus far. In order of what I loved most to less, here's what in the box:

J & E Botanicals: Bath Salt Soak (Candy Cane)

This isn't the first J&E Botanicals item included in cubecrate. They were also featured in last month's box. However, that was a tiny spray that was christmas themed. This month's addition was... oddly enough, also christmas themed, with a scent that featured candy cane. I had no problems whatsoever with this though. J & E Botanicals prides itself in handcrafted home and personal care products that are free from toxic and synthetic chemicals.

The Candy Cane Bath Salt Soak smells exactly like candy cane. I've been wanting to get my hands on a bath salt for a while, so this was definitely my favorite product in the box. There's a lot of other local startups selling bath salt scrubs and sugar scrubs so I hadn't been able to decide. Now, I don't have to. Yay! ^^ You can find them on Facebook or Instagram.

Tea Tea Republic: Imperial Bliss

Coming at a close second place is the mystery tea sample from The Tea Republic. Started in December 2010, the tea republic has more than 50 types of teas and operates from Bangsar Shopping Center. Their online store was launched in 2013 and they offer a wide variety of tea that you can choose on based on your mood, either for relaxation, staying focused, being healthy, or trying something exotic. ^^

I believe I was giving the imperial bliss blend, which is made from Chinese black tea, lemongrass and ginger. Brewing instructions says to infuse for 3 to 5 mintues in freshly boiled water. This is the perfect blend for my period cramp. :P You can check out their collection on their website here

Feather Gifts Shop: Decorative Fridge Magnet

Don't be fooled by the unassuming-looking magnet. This little gem comes from the Feather Gift Shop, a shop that sells mainly chinese cultural and educational related gifts. They offer chinese traditional drawing and carved ornament artworks full of folk custom and antiquity. Their specialized chinese cultural items and educational gifts and thoughtful, meaningful ,and most importantly, reasonably priced. You can find them on their website here.

Potsie Pottie: Earrings

The only reason why these beautiful earrings are last is because my ears aren't pierced. They're very pretty and look expensive. :P Potsie Pottie offers a collection of female clothes and accessories from everywhere for afforable prices. They can be found at Atria Shopping Mall but you can check out there collection online on their website as well.

Cubecrate Complimentary Mini Tassle & Overall Impression

Cubecrate has also generously included a complimentary mini tassle that looks absolutely perfect as a phone decoration or a keychain. I haven't quite figured out what to do with this yet, but it's pretty so I'm happy. ^^

Cubecrate has certainly overdone themselves with last month's great Christmas-themed box and this month's wonderful Chinese New Year box. They're now curating next month's box, which will aptly be Valentine's day themed.

In terms of getting your money's worth, this month's box is certainly worth RM35, seeing as merely a homemade bath salt soak is going for about RM25-RM35 on the market and shipping adds a further RM6-RM10 depending on where you're located. Everything else is just icing on the cake. I'm taking away a single point because some items might not be everyone's liking. For example, not everyone's keen on trying out bath salts and not everyone has ear piercings.

[Comparison Review] Petitfee Oil Blossom Lip Mask VS Tony Moly Ferment Snail Lip Treatment

Seeing as I've used both Petitfee Oil Blossom Lip Mask and Tony Moly Ferment Snail Lip Treatment, I figured I'd do a comparison review for them! :)

I've been using the two alternatively for a little more than 3 months now. When I reviewed this earlier in my instagram, I preferred the Petitfee Oil Blossom Lip Mask more but now that I've brought the Tony Moly Timeless Ferment Snail Lip Treatment (what a mouthful) with me to Korea, I realize that I'm much more inclined to repurchase the Tony Moly snail if not because it can be used both as a daily lip balm and as an overnight lip treatment then because it didn't have such an overwhelming scent.

The Tony Moly Mask was able to heal cracked and chapped lips while absorbing nicely into the lip whereas the Petitfee Oil Blossom tends to sit over the lips as a protective barrier. The Petitfee Mask is meant as an overnight mask whereas the Tony Moly Lip Treatment can be used as both an overnight mask and as a regular lip balm.

I wouldn't want to use the Petitfee Oil Blossom as a daily balm either since it leaves a sort of oily film over the lips and has an odd taste to it. Which brings me to the next point. The Tony Moly Lip Treatmet has a mild citrusy scent that's quite pleasant while the Petitfee Mask has an overwhelming artificial strawberry that tends to linger in the mouth if you get it in your mouth. I hate the scent that the Petitfee Lip Mask leaves behind, sadly, though I've read reviews where people love it. XD

On the other hand, the Petitfee Mask seems to be able to retain moisture better throughout the night. The Tony Moly Lip Treatment is absorbed after a few hours of application. Both do a good job of keeping the lips soft and moisturized. The Petitefee Oil Blossom is $9.10 for 15ml whereas the Tony Moly Snail Lip Treatment is $6.30 for 10ml, so prices are pretty comparable.

There's a clear winner of what I would repurchase between the two and that's the Tony Moly Timeless Ferment Snail Lip Treatment but if you don't mind heavy scents, then the Petitfee Oil Blossom Lip Masks might be good for you too. :)

I would probably try and find the stick version of the Tony Moly Timeless Ferment Snail Lip Treatment when given the chance though! ^^ It's basically the same thing, only it's in stick form, which makes it much more sanitary and was the reason it got 9/10 instead of 10/10.

I bought both of these from BBCosmetic. You can use my affiliated 8% off discount code: C10T190S3  applied during checkout if you're keen to get some for yourself! ^^

[Review] Tony Moly Timeless Ferment Snail Lip Treatment

(Use affiliated coupon: C10T190S3 for 8% off)
Verdict: 9/10
Repurchase: Yes

Price & Shop

I purchased this Tony Moly Timeless Ferment Snail Lip Treatment from BBCosmetic for $6.30 and used the code C10T190S3 to get 8% off. For those of you unaware with the free international shipping store, check out my review of them here.

This is the... nth purchase I've made from them. I've made so many. I dread checking. They do take a while to ship all the way to Malaysia though. Usually it takes about 2 weeks, which is pretty acceptable for me.

Packaging, Ingredients and Directions

The 10g treatment comes in a jar, like the Petitfee Oil Blossom Lip Mask. I'd much rather if it came in a stick, which is actually does. I couldn't find the Tony Moly Snail Lip Treatment stick on BBCosmetic though, but they do have this Etude House Honey Cera Treatment Lip Oil (7ml) that looks so amazing that I'm tempted. T.T

Ingredients: I couldn't find the full lips of ingredients but some highlights of the lip treatment stick included: Barley oil, Brazil nut seed oil, sweet almond oil, olive oil, hydrolyzed collagen, sunflower seed oil, jojoba oil, soybean oil, snail slime filtered water, chamomile flower extract.

There was a lapse of judgement when I bought this, seeing as my skin doesn't take kinly to some snail products and this is a snail treatment. >< Oopss! The treatment is formulated with 1ppm of filtrate of snails that were fed gold tea. Lol. So fancy. Even though my skin seems to react badly to some (read - some) snail products, it's fine with this. Yay~ ^^

Texture and Fragrance

Credit: Tony Moly Korea English Site
The biggest problem I had with this treatment is the texture, to be completely honest. The consistency of this product is... Interesting. It's almost as if it's resisting being used. It's a solid thick, oily texture that needs a little scraping or rubbing to melt it. But I only do need a little bit of the product on my lip. Judging by how little I need, I have a feeling this would last forever, so don't let the small bottle fool you.

As for fragrance, it has a really mild, almost indescrinable citrusy fragrance that I really enjoy, mostly cause I don't notice it's there.

Performance

Credit: Tony Moly Korea English Site
The snail mucin treatment is supposed to return natural softness and elasticity of the skin and fix dryness. It can also be used as an overnight pack. It claims to be mild and non-irritating which I totally believe since the snail didn't disagree with my skin. ^^

At first I thought this was meant as an overnight treatment, but when I brought this with me to Korea, I used it as an intensive lip moisturizer for regular use and found that it was perfect for everyday use. My bf and I weren't used to the dry weather there so our lips were in trouble on the second day and I started applying this in the morning with reapplication every few hours. It helped heal my bf's chapped lips and instantly relieved dryness.

In Malaysia, where the weather is hot and humid, it applied a little bit on the sticky side and I didn't really like this, but it was perfect for Korea. In both instances though, the stickiness went away quickly and my lips were left super soft after using this. I found it a lot more effective than other lip balms I've bought. Nivea, burts bees, ect, they all seem to be super temporary and only worked for a short while. In fact, those left my lips cracked regardless. This lip treatment really helped moisturize and heal all at once. I didn't think I'd like this as much as I did when I first got it, but I love this. I'll get another once I'm done, but like I said, this looks like it's going to last forever. :)

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • It's reasonably priced at $6.30 for 10ml of product which is looking like it'll last forever.
  • It moisturizes and heals wonderfully!
  • Relieves chapped lips instantly.
  • Leaves lips soft.
  • Has a pleasant citrus fragrance.
  • It can be used both as an overnight mask or a daily lip balm.

Cons

  • Applies sticky to begin with and doesn't feel too hygenic in a jar.

[Review] Petitfee Oil Blossom Lip Mask

(Use affiliated coupon: C10T190S3 for 8% off)
Verdict: 8/10
Repurchase: No

Price & Shop

I received this Petitfee Oil Blossom Lip Mask from  BBCosmetic in exchange for an honest review a while back but all thoughts are my own, as always. ^^ It's $9.90 per piece but you can get it for $9.10 after the 8% discount. For those of you unaware with the free international shipping store, check out my review of them here.

I've made so many purchases from them that I've lost count. They do 50% off deals on their facebook page with free shipping available almost every day so I've caved so many times. I regret nothing.

Packaging, Ingredients and Directions

The packaging for this balm is super adorable. It comes in a tiny (but incredibly sturdy) square box that houses an equally tiny glass jar that contains 15g of product. They've also included a spatula so you can be more... sanitary I suppose? But I usually just make sure I have clean fingers and use my fingers instead cause using the spatula usually causes me to take out too much product, which I certainly can't return back to the jar.

Ingredients: Diisostearyl Malate, Dipentaerythrityl Hexa C5-0 Acid Esters, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Microcrystalline Wax, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Bees Wax, Ceresin, Petrolatum, Butyrospermum Parkii, Eclipta Prostrata Leaf Powder, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Curcuma Longa Root Extract, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Titanium Dioxide, Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract, Moringa Oleifera, Corallina Officinalis Extract, Melia Azadirachta Bark Extract, Ocimum Sanctum Leaf Extract, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Limnanthes Alba Seed Oil

Running the ingredients through cosdna didn't come up with anything particular to look out for. On the other hand, there are still some ingredients that may be triggering to some such as bees wax, phenoxyethanol, tocopheryl acetate, and jojoba seed oil (buxus chinensis oil). As always with these products, ymmv. I'm not exactly sure how to patch test with lip products but I'm thinking you could try on a different part of your body as you patch test with any other products for a little while to ensure that there's no adverse reacitons before using it on your lips. I yolo'ed and applied it on my lip directly though.

The product brags no aritifical dye and a strong barrier-coating type texture, the former which surprised me since this is such a beautiful shade of pink! It contains 5 kinds of highly nutritious plant oil balms and has camelia seed oil as well as vitamin E.

Directions says to apply balm onto lips before sleeping and wipe off the next day.

Texture and Fragrance

The Petitfee Oil Blossom Lip Mask is very easily spreadable and doesn't dry sticky. Instread, it feels just like it's name, leaving a layer of oil on my lip to keep it moisturized. It does a good job as a protective barrier but it doesn't really sink into my lips.

As for the fragrance, that I could really do without. While it smells amazing, like some sort of pink bubblegum, it has a scent that doesn't go away. Ever. It also tends to creep into your mouth and it doesn't taste half as good as it smelled. I really dislike the really strong taste it has. Drinking water is impossible unless you want a mouthful of this. Blergh. Fragrance is so bad that I'm taking away 2 points from it.

Performance

The mask's main aim is hydration and moisturization, both functions it manages to do really well. My lips are pretty well on its own and the only times I need to use this is for when I've use peel off lipsticks or actually just any day I feel like my lips need extra love. I only need a little bit of this to moisturize my skin and it's looking like it's going to last forever. The next morning, there's still a decent amount of this so I can just wipe this off. My lips are left healthy, plumped, and super soft. Love it!

And yet, I'm not going to repurchase it. Because the scent is really very off-putting for me. The scent of bubblegum or artifical strawberry never really goes away and that bothers me enough that I don't really want this on my lips. I actually found myself dreading this. I have yet to find a way to apply this without getting it into my mouth so maybe when I find a way, I'll love this more. For now, it's a pass for me.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • It's reasonably priced at $9.10 for 15ml of product.
  • It does what it's supposed to wonderfully!
  • The short ingredient list means it has less triggering ingredients and only ingredients that's good for my lips.
  • Keeps my lips moisturized throughout the night and I wake up to supple lips

Cons

  • Scent of pink bubblegum doesn't quite go away no matter what I do. Can't even drink water with this on my lips. It's so bad, I'm taking off 2 points from it.

[Review] Pascucci Royal Jelly Good Face Eco Mask Sheet

Price: NA
(received from Hermo)
Verdict: 6/10
Repurchase: No

Price & Shop (Mini-story)

A while back, I wrote a rant on my blog about how Hermo sent me a hairball along with my purchase and how they weren't really apologetic about it when I emailed them. Everytime I've seen another one of their sales, I reminded myself that I wanted nothing to do with hermo by re-reading my rant and that's help me no purchase anything from them since then. Yay for my wallet.

So, imagine my surprise when I received a parcel from Hermo with a box in it. "Huh?" I thought. "I haven't bought anything from Hermo lately..." Then, I opened the parcel and found that they had sent me a sheet mask along with a... dried up plant in a jar. There was also a sweet, handwritten note to let me know that they've tried to improve based on my complaint, because face it, you can be nice about it and say it's constructive criticism, but it's really just a complaint.

Still, credit is where credit's due so Thank you, Hermo for sending me these. I'm... less upset about the hairball now I suppose. Hermo stocks them for RM24 pieces for 15 pieces, which is a good price for decent masks I suppose, but I wouldn't buy more of these.

Ingredients

Ingredients (from back packaging): water, glycerin, butylene glycol, royal jelly extract, sodium hyaluronate, rhus semialata gall extract, zanthoxylum piperitum fruit extract, portulaca oleracea extract, terminalia chebula fruit extract, carbomer, triethanolamine, Peg-60 hydrogenate castor oil, phenoxyethanol, dmdm hydrantoin, disodium edta, fragrance

On the bright side, there's not a billion ingredients here. On the other hand, I ran this through cosdna and a few of these came up on safety, such as the triethanol emine (pH adjuster) Hydrogenated castor oil (surfactant), phenoxyethanol (preservative), dmdm hydantoin (preservative), and fragrance. Some of you might also react badly to the butylene glycol included.

I found that PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor oil is present in a lot of sheet masks and lotions. It's used as a solubilizer and the amount present in products is safe for most skin. However, those with skin conditions/more sensitive skin shoudl avoid this since it may cause irritation. Personally, I've never had bad reactions with products with this present.

Fit, Scent, & Texture

The fit of the mask was just so-so, as you can see. It didn't really managed to cover most of my forehead and parts of my nose. However, there's really lots of other worse-fitting masks out there so it wasn't too bad overall.

The smell of honey is fairly overwhelming but I enjoy the smell of honey so this wasn't too unpleasant. There was enough essence in it for me to smear the extra on my neck and legs and the texture of the essence was fairly waterly. The mask is actually just a paper mask (According to their ebay description).

Performance

The royal Jelly Eco Mask Sheet is supposed to contain royal jelly, which is effective in nutrition supply, moisturizing, providing plentiful vitamins to dry skin. It also helps to make your face silky, clean and moisturized. The galactomyces ferment filtrate in the mask claims to help improve skin cell reproduction, elasticity, anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, and whitening.

  • It pains me to admit the mask wasn't absolutely horrible. It wasn't really good either though. First off, they sealed this mask on the outer edge of the packaging, so I had to cut this with scissors to get it out, which is just stupid. It was pleasant enough to have on though and was still wet when I took this off 30 minute later. My skin was very moisturized, which is a nice change from the #skinfood masks I've been using for the past few days. Unfortunately, it also left my skin with a sticky residue that I dislike. I layered a moisturizer over this and that helped. I'm taking off points for the bad packaging and the fact that it left a sticky residue. It wasn't a completely horribel mask, but it's not something I would pay for either.
