[Lifestyle] Amazin' Graze, How Sweet The... Nuts?

Price: RM24.9 per box
Shipping: Good!
Repurchase: Discontinued Subscription Box, but will repurchase individual snacks!

Mini Introduction

Last month, I purchased and reviewed a lovely healthy snacking service that offers subscription boxes for RM24.9 per box, Amazin' Graze. Their products are handmade weekly in small batches to keep them fresh. They have a pretty wide variety of snacks to choose from and is basically my desperate attempt to eat less chips and more healthy snacks. It... didn't really work. But now I also eat healthy snacks! Enough about me. Moving on to the box!

PSA: The Surprise Box has since been discontinued, sadly, but the other snacks are still readily available! There's 35 snacks to choose from, all of which looks amazing.

This Month's Box

If you remember, I mentioned (alright, I complained) about lack of the Hazelnut Blackforest Granola in my last post. The lovely curators of the box read the review and apologized even though it was entirely my own fault. Amy Zheng, the chief executive grazer, explained that it wasn't an option available in the Surprise Me Box but told me she'll add a 50g sample for me in my next box nevertheless! How amazing is that?! They didn't even count it as one of my packages and just stacked it as a nice little bonus.

Here's what came in my package!

This package includes Summer Bowl, Double Espresso, Hazelnut Blackforest Granola, Oatmeal Raisin Muffin and Merry Matcha. I love, love everything about this month's surprise!

Hazelnut Blackforest Granola really, truly delivered. It's my favorite of everything I've tried in their store so far and I am definitely going to get myself a package (or three) one of these days. It's available here at RM18.90 for 250g. It's dark chocolate granola made with rolled oats, buckwheat and chia seeds. The package has juicy cherries and cranberries as well as cashews and hazelnuts. This thing is divine, I tell you. It's absolutely delicious. It has a light chocolate taste to it that wasn't too overwhelming and isn't bitter at all despite being undeniably dark chocolate. It leaves a pleasant dark chocolate aftertaste in my mouth. The granola was chewy, but not overly so and biting into the cherries and cranberries complements the granola wonderfully. Love.

I'm not sure how many servings it's supposed to be, or if I'm supposed to be eating this with milk/yogurt, but I finished it in one seating on it's own. No regrets. =<

Everything else in the package was good, not great, but I doubt anything can beat the Hazelnut Blackforest Granola, which is a good thing for me, since the Blackforest Granola seems to be the only thing I can find in their store. *wipes worried sweat from brows* Yay.

Amazin' Graze Nut Butters

While checking the site for their newest update, I found out they carried Nut Butters now! They're gluten-free and contain zero trans fat, refined sugar, salt or presevatives. The All Natural ARC Butter, for example, combines almonds, brazil nuts, and cashews. Literally that's it! 33.3% of each of those ingredients are in the nut butter.

The only downside is that it's a little expensive, at RM29.9 for 180g. I might get one of these for my mom eventually, since she's a huge fan of nut butters. She'll probably finish this in just a few sittings.

Since the Subcription box is no longer an option, the only

[Lifestyle] Healthy Snacking with Amazin' Graze To Kuching, Sarawak aka My First Snack Box Subscription

Price: RM24.9 per box
Shipping: Spectacular
Repurchase? Maybe...

I didn't come across this lovely gem. Instead, it found me due to my old writing days with Vulcanpost.com. The name itself tickled me enough to do a little personal research into the store and I found myself getting more and more intrigued.

What is Amazin' Graze?

Graze, defined as lifestock grazing on grass or people eating small quantities of food at small intervals, is an apt name for the site, which offers an amazing variety of healthy snacks that promises to be fresh and healthy.

Their products are handmade weekly in small-batches to keep them fresh. They have subscription boxes, where you can have them send you specially packed boxes weekly, biweekly, or monthly. I have never signed up for subscription boxes before and thought this would be a good chance to try one out, especially since I can get 50% off my first order.

Amazin' Box

With the 50% off, my Surprise box came to RM12.50 instead of RM24.9. This comes which free shipping, which, in my honest opinion, made it very worth the money.

I made my first order a surprise box since I wasn't sure what I wanted. Or rather, I wasn't sure what I didn't want. Su Wong, the nice lady who emailed me, recommended the Hazelnut Black Forest Granola so I added that as a special request in the order form.

4 Days To Kuching

I made my order on the 16th of June and it arrived today, on 20th June. 4 days to pack and ship from KL to Kuching? Not bad, not bad at all.

I was surprised by the delivery man at around 10am today since I don't remember buying anything online. Or rather, I don't think anything is due to come so soon. Imagine my delight when I saw that my snackbox is here! It's a rather nice surprise, especially on this overcast Monday morning when I'm still trying to get my head set straight for work.

The box is sturdy enough to keep everything nice and safe inside but felt a little lacking somehow. I suppose I was looking for prettier packaging. It's a snack delivery box though, so I shouldn't complain (but I already did and there's nothing you can do about it. =< ).

Unboxin' My Surprise

So, here's what in my box! I'm a dumbo who managed to open up the box sideways instead of using a boxcutter to cut it open prettily. Hey, it got the job done.

My four snacks include Arabian Dream, Salted Maple Medley, Turkish Delight, & Creamy Coco Choc. If you've noticed the glaring lack of Hazelnut Black Forest, then yeah, so have I. I've noticed it plenty. I tried looking for it on their site and it was there. It was also more expensive though, so I sppose that's why it's not available in the subscription package. Still, disappointment. :(

First Taste: Arabian Dream

I opened up Arabian Dream to try out. That's the first packet from the left. The main reason why I wanted to try it first was because I was craving chocolate and the cocoa-covered chunks in the packets look exactly like chocolate. Only... it's not.  It's cinnamon coated dates. The white bits are puffed buckwheat, which tasted like soft popcorn that's been left outside for too long. I had two bites of the cocoa covered dates and a cashew before calling it quits.

I wish they would add ingredients list as well as Nutrition Facts at the back of each packet to let me know what I'm dealing with though. At least a short list of what's in each packet under the names. Everything is available on their site, but I'm a lazy bum who wants other people to get things done for her.

I'm excited to try out the Salted Maple Medley but not so excited about the rest of the choices in my surprise box. Turkish delight immediately brings to mind gel-based confections with rosewater and lemon coating, which the packet is obviously not.

Meanwhile, the creamy coco choc looks interesting but the chocolate chips looks like what I add to cookies when I'm baking and isn't something I fancy eating directly as a snack.

Lesson: Don't order surprise boxes if you're like me and picky about food.

Summary: Pros & Cons

So, do I like them? Well, the short answer is, yes. But for RM24.9 a month, they might be a tad over my budget for snacks. I'm also quite particular about what I eat, so the surprice box might not have been the best decision. I'll try them out for another month with a more personalized option and decide from there if I want to continue my monthly subscription or cancel.

Pros
  • Free Shipping
  • Healthy Snacks delivered to your doorstep
  • Easy subscription boxes with options to cancel just as easily
  • 50% off first order, so you're not really losing much money to give it a try.
Cons
  • Hit-and-miss for surprise box
  • Prices a little on the higher end

Price: 7/10 (It's a little expensive for 4 packages)
Packaging: 9/10 (minus 1 point for not being pretty enough)
Shipping: 10/10 (4 days to Sarawak? Spectacular!)
Samples: Not applicable (it would be nice if they did include a small sample packet so it would be easier to decide what to get for the next month though!)
Repurchase: Maybe
