Product & Shop

I got to try my very first bubble sheet mask thanks to Jolse. This mask was sent to me from Jolse.com in exchange for an honest review, but all thoughts are my own. I've used several bubble packs before, but none in mask form, so I was very keen on trying this out!

Jolse is one of the first korean skincare stores I've shopped from and they've been consistently amazing. ^^ Shipping is free with any purchase (no minimum) and you get $3 store credit towards your first purchase if you reach a minimum purchase of $20. In addition, reviewing the items you've purchased on the site also adds credit.

Anyways, this Rivecowe Bubble Mask Pack is a bubble carbonic mask pack that claims to eliminate body wastes while keeping skin moisturized. The mask retails for $8.98 at Jolse for a pack of 5, though they're discounted to a little over $7 at the moment. It's a little pricy for skintertainment, so I'm keen to see how it works.

Packaging & Ingredients

It's packaged like any other mask, which has me intrigued, since most of the bubble masks I've tried are somewhat creamy and the reason why it bubbles is because of the reaction with the humid air. I'm curious how a bubble sheet mask would work since the mask is basically suffocated to my face. If the only part that bubbles is the outer layer of the mask, that kinda makes it useless, doesn't it?

Ingredients: Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Dipropylene Glycol, Disiloxane, Methyl Perfluorobutyl Ether, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Betaine, Xanthan Gum, Allantoin, Methyl Undecenoyl Leucinate, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil, Rosa Centifolia Flower Oil, Camiellia Japonica Seed Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Isopropyl Myristate, Disodium EDTA, PhenoxyethanolFragrance

Ingredients are fairly unimpressive with Persea gratissima oil(avocado pear oil/moisturizer) and Isopropyl Myristate(synthetic ester) showing up as a 2 and 5 as possible acne-triggers on cosdna. The second ingredient, cocoamidopropyl betain, is a cleaning agent and a foam booster, which is one of the ingredients that allows the mask to bubble as much as it does. That, along with phenoxyethanol ranks 4 on safety.

According to this scientific research available on ncbi.nlm.nih, cocoamidopropyl betaine is a synthetic detergent that's been increasingly used in personal and hygiene products. Unfortunately, it can induce mild skin irritation, especially in sensitive skin. This is a coconut-based cleanser and is used as a surfacant, thickener and foaming agent, particularly in bubble baths and the like.  It can potentially cause irritation and allergic contact dermatitis. Like any other ingredient, it's really a matter of ymmv. It may be alright for some and not for others. Thankfully, my skin is perfectly fine with this ingredient. ^^

The main culprit for the bubbly is methyl perfluorobutyl ether,  which is a stable, unreactive carbon-based compound that can dissolve 20 times more oxygen than water, according to labmuffin. It's present in Elizavecca carbonated bubble clay mask, and caolin premium blackhead bubble pore pack as well as several other bubbly masks.

They've included some oil in the mask such as chamomile flower oil, rose flower oil, camellia seed oil, rice bran oil, and avocado oil, perhaps to counteract the potentially drying ingredients.

Directions & Performance
I really like it when masks are black for purely aesthetic reasons. The bubbles start to form the moment I had the mask out of the package, so I was quick to slap this to my face. XD
Instructions says to attach the mask on your skin for 3-5 minutes and then was the face. This should work as an effective cleanser, so I applied this right after waking up one morning and waited for it to do it's magic.

The scent is kind of sweet, but nothing too heavy. In fact, I couldn't really smell it unless I was really trying. I really like that this sheet mask eliminated my problem with bubble masks that foams too quickly for me to apply an even layer on my skin. I tend to be a bit uneven with distribution, so having the sheet mask evens out the amount of bubble my skin is getting.
The bubbly started immediately and every time I think it's reached it's saturation point, it continues to proof me wrong. It was tingly, but not uncomfortably so. I could actually ignore the mask bubbling for the most part, which is nice since some masks tend to be somewhat annoyingly itchy when it does that.

I took it off after 5 minutes cause I stopped being able to see. I also looked really ridiculous. XD
This was very fun and I had a good laugh. My skin wasn't all that bubbly, with most of the bubbles outside the mask, so I just took the mask and washed my skin with the bubbles on the outside. My skin was clean after washing and it's not too stripping, so it does work as a cleanser.

There was actually so much bubbles and soap from the single sheet mask that I could wash my entire body with this and since I normally plan it so that I use bubble masks prior to baths, this was perfect. I'd actually imagined this to be perfect for short trips, where you don't want to use the hotel's soap and this can double as a face/body cleanser!

It does a good job cleansing, washing my skin perfectly, but it's a little expensive for just that. I mean, it's basically a glorified cleanser... that bubbles. It doesn't really claim to be anything other than that though, so I can't dock points for that. I suppose the extra points come for the entertainment factor, but if you're not into bubbly masks, you won't be into this either.

[Elizavecca Review] Elizavecca Kangsi Pack 24K Gold Pack Wash Off Mask Review

Shop: Elizavecca
Verdict: 9/10
Repurchase: Maybe!

Product & Shop

I was sent this Elizavecca Kangsi Pack 24k Gold Content Kangsi Pack in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts are my own, as always.

Elizavecca has been developing and selling products for more than 20 years. Elizavecca isn't a new brand for me. I've tried a few products of theirs, including plenty of their assorted Power Ringer masks and their Green Piggy Collagen Jella Pack Pig Mask. I've also tried their carbonated bubble pack, though I haven't sat down and prepared a review for that since I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, it's a really fun product that bubbles on my face. On the other hand, it can be a little bit too stripping and is ridiculously hard to wash off completely. It's worth a look though, and is definitely fun to play with.

I have mixed feelings about Elizavecca because they offer pretty decent products for really reasonable prices, but at the same time, I haven't found a product that's HG for me, so I approached this Kangsi Pack with caution.

This Elizavecca pack is a steady seller for the brand. It helps in pore management, exfoliating, and evening skin tone and texture.

Packaging & Ingredients

I really like the packaging for the product. Most face packs opt for jars or tubes or completely unsanitary containers. Having this in a squeeze tube means I'll just squeeze out however much I need, and the rest of the product stays safe and nestled inside the container.

Ingredients: Water, silica, alcohol, maltose, glycerin, polyvinyl alcohol, cyclopentasiloxane, polysorbate 60, lavan dula angustifolua (lavender) extract, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) extract, origanum vulgare leaf/flower/stem extract, thymus vulgaris (thyme) extract, phyllanthus emblica fruit etract, aristotelia chilensis fruit etract, euterpe oleracea fruit extract, rubuus idaeus (raspberry) fruit extract, vaccinium angustifolium (blueberry) fruit extract, vaccinium myrtillus fruit extract, vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry) fruit extrac, propolis extract, glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract, portulaca oleracea extract, hydrolyzed collagen, adenosine, ceramide 3, goly synthetic fluorphlogopite, tin oxide, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, carbomer, tromethamine, fragrance.

There are plenty of beneficial ingredients in the list, such as propolis extract for it's anti-inflammtory and anti fungal properties to speed up healing process. Propolis is used as a sealant in the bee's hive to protect the colonyfrom viruses, diseases and other intruders. In the hive, it acts to inhibit fungal and bacterial growth. In skincare, it's for moisturizing and trouble-care.

Adenosine in skincare is lauded for it's anti-aging properties. Adenosine Triphosphate is a molecule in the body that is responsible for being the leading source of energy for the majority of our cellular and muscular functions (source). It has anti-wrinkle properties that is a good soothing and skin-restoring agent.

There's also lavender and rosemary, with lavender helping regulate sebum production and rosemary for it's antimicrobial effects. In addition they've included only like, a billion fruit extracts. ^^ I'm not quite sure what half of them is for, but I'll trust the researchers behind Elizavecca that they didn't just add them for the laughs.

The gold, however, is another matter. Even though people in cosmetic claims it has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, their claims aren't really backed by scientific research. I'm fine with it being in the pack for it's fun factor though. :)

Do take note that alcohol is the third ingredient, which may be triggering for some.

Texture and Directions

The pack has a seal foil upon opening. Once peeled off, it's just the matter of squeezing it out and applying it. Instruction says to squeeze out a generous amount and apply evenly over clean face, then let dry for 15 to 20 minutes before washing it off. It's recommended use is 2 - 3 time a week.

I tried this on the back of my hand first and the shimmery gold is really very fun! Texture-wise, it applies really smoothly, creating a nice layer over my skin. The fragrance on this is quite strong, which is a given for most Elizavecca products that I've tried.

Performance

TIL my skin tone is gold. Muahaha. It's mostly to do with my phone camera though. XD I enjoyed applying the mask pack over my skin. It didn't dry out too quickly too, which allowed me to apply a somewhat film layer all over my skin.

After about 20 minutes, my skin had turned really white! It dried to a white, powder-like texture that kinds of flake a little.  I really wasn't expecting the mask to have a clay-mask like texture when it dried. It also didn't suck of any moisture from my face as it changed color, which was an odd thing! I really enjoyed having the mask on my face and I didn't feel like my skin was cracking (looking at you Innisfree clay masks). Lol.
After washing it off, I noticed that my skin tone was kinda evened out, which was very nice. I was dumb and didn't do a before-after shot though. My pores were also clean and my face felt more refreshed. I didn't need to follow this up with a second cleanser since it washed off easily with water.
This Elizavecca Kangsi Mask is supposed to manage pores and exfoliate for clean skin texture. It helps by flushing out environmental toxins, dirty and debris that can clog pores and brighten and reduce hyperpigmentation while evening out skin tone. It also claims to balance the skin's natural hydration levels.

Does it do what it promises? Well, sorta! It helps tighten pores (temporarily) and exfoliates and removes dead skin. It's brightening effect is only temporary though, but I wasn't really expecting it to clear up my hyperpigmentations within just one use! I've been using this once a week for a few weeks and my opinion of this is quite positive! I actually enjoy this out of everything else from the brand I use. Definitely one of my favorite masks now! ^^ Now I just got to find a place that sells this and ships to Malaysia!
